Notes The catalogue cards produce before 1949 contain excessive description cataloguing.
In 1965 the LC established a global network of national and regional offices for interna-
tional cooperation.
The purpose of CCF is to provide a detailed and structured method for recording a number
of mandatory and optional data elements in a computer-readable bibliographic record for
exchange between two or more computer based systems.
The format of the ISSN is an eight digit number, divided by a hyphen into two four-digit
numbers.
