Basic Computer Skills

Notes Magnifier: It is a display utility that makes the computer screen more readable by people
who have low vision by creating a separate window that displays a magnified portion of
the screen. Magnifier provides a minimum level of functionality for people who have slight
                                       visual impairments.
Mobile computing: It is a form of human–computer interaction where a computer is expected
to be transported during normal usage. Mobile computing has three aspects: mobile
communication, mobile hardware and mobile software.
Multimedia: It is media and content that uses a combination of different content forms. The
term can be used as a noun (a medium with multiple content forms) or as an adjective
describing a medium as having multiple content forms. The term is used in contrast to media
which only use traditional forms of printed or hand-produced material. Multimedia includes
a combination of text, audio, still images, animation, video, and interactivity content forms.
Search companion: It is the name of the left hand pane that appears in the Search Window
under Windows XP when we select Search, For Files or Folders.
Sticky keys: It is an accessibility feature to help computer users who have physical disabilities,
but it is also used by others as a means to reduce RSI (or a syndrome called the Emacs Pinky).
It essentially serializes keystrokes instead of pressing multiple keys at a time: StickyKeys
allows the user to press a modifier key, such as Shift, Ctrl, Alt, or the Windows key, and
have it remain active until any other key is pressed.
Title bar: The title bar is the bar that runs horizontally across an application window. The
title bar will contain either the name of the file for example, a document we are viewing
or the website we are viewing through Internet browser. Find out how to use, customize
and install add-ins to title bars.
