Introduction
Stephen Butler Leacock (1869-1944), is a celebrated author of satire and sharp humour. His short
stories have realistic irony exposing the social weaknesses of modern life. This Canadian author
is remembered for his best-selling book Sunshine Sketches of a Little Town (1912) and the
numerous honours and awards he received during his illustrious lifetime as an author, lecturer,
professor and humourist.
The Conjurers revenge written by Stephen Butler Leacock is a short story which bears realistic
irony that exposes social weaknesses. The Quick Man plays the role of a fault finding person
who is keen to see it that the Conjurer’s reputation goes down and he is exposed in front of the
