Unit 7: Microsoft Word Introduction

bar also contains buttons that allow to switch quickly between the four most common Notes
                      document views.
                    • The Office Assistant: When Word starts, a little paper clip icon appears on the lower
right corner of the screen. Office Assistant is best bet to get help with Word. Office
Assistant is intelligent and specific, and it can get to the heart of a matter
quickly. To change the clip icon, right click it, select and choose Assistant. To close it,
click the Close box and clicking the question mark on the Standard toolbar brings it
                      back.

Word also has the facility of macros. Macros can be either attached to
some function/special keys or to a tool bar or to a menu.

                 Help Menu

Show Balloons: If you are not sure what a menu does, turn on Balloons, put your cursor
on the menu item and get a short explanation.
Microsoft Word Help: Open Word’s Assistant and get a search box to type in. Word displays
possible matches for you to read about.

Contents and Index: See an index of all topics available in Word’s Help documentation.
Help on the Web: That’s right! It is exactly what it sounds like. Select a link and a Microsoft
help page is opened in your browser. If you are not online, Word will make the connection
                 and then display the page.

Online Registration: If you have ever installed any software application on your computer
you have seen those reminders to register the product online. Well, Microsoft keeps the
reminder around in case you didn’t register when you installed the software. Isn’t that
                 considerate of them!

Give the steps for opening the MS word.

                 7.3 Creating a Word Document

When Word opens, a new blank document called Document 1 appears on the screen, based
on the Normal template. Template is a blueprint or pattern for all documents of a certain
type, such as a letter, memo, or report. To begin working, just start typing. To create a new
                 document with Normal template:
                   1. Choose the File >> New command or click the New button on the Standard toolbar.
                   2. The New dialog box appears with the Normal template selected.

                   3. Click OK, or press Enter.
