Unit 12: Space-based Wireless WANs
Low Earth Orbit: These satellites are placed 500-1500 kms above the surface of the earth as LEOs Notes
circulate on a lower orbit, hence they exhibit a much shorter period that is 95 to 120 minutes.
Medium Earth Orbit: Medium Earth orbit (MEO), sometimes called intermediate circular
orbit (ICO), is the region of space around the Earth above low Earth orbit (altitude of 2,000
kilometres (1,243 mi)) and below geostationary orbit (altitude of 35,786 kilometres (22,236 mi)).
Elliptical Orbits: An elliptic orbit is a Kepler orbit with theeccentricity less than 1; this includes
the special case of a circular orbit, with eccentricity equal to zero.
ProTrak Service: ProTrak is a service for the localization and tracking of stolen vehicles.
Over dense Trials: Over dense trials produce relatively strong signal reflections.
Under dense trails: Under dense trails are formed by very small meteors, typically the size of a
grain of sand.
