Unit 11: Collaborating on Database Storage and Sharing Files
Data and applications are stored on a hard drive or a series of hard drives and other media. Notes
All of this storage is managed by the operating system.
Online database software allows you to store business critical information in web database
software, where it’s easily accessible by all team members.
Successful businesses have long understood that managing critical data and transforming
that data into useful information is key to sustaining a competitive advantage.
The network access in Web-DBMS is transparent to the user – the user does not have to
spend time or money for setting up expensive and complex network software.
A web based database service can speed web application development and deployment
and reduce the cost of ownership associated with maintaining the application.
Almost any collaborative activity between groups of users or teams can benefit from web
based database applications. Since programming is not required to build a database driven
web application on Lightspoke, business users are now empowered to create, maintain
and manage their own databases.
QuickBase provides one platform from which workgroups can easily create unlimited
applications to automate business processes and improve communication and collaboration
online.
Cloud storage is defined as a model of networked enterprise storage where data is stored
not only in the user’s computer, but in virtualized pools of storage which are generally
hosted by third parties, too.
Social bookmarking means storing your bookmarks online, tagging them to remember
why you wanted to save them and what you might want them for in the future. You can
also share them with others who might value your web surfing experiences.
Netvouz is the only bookmarking service that lets you place groups of tags in folders that
are displayed high up on the page.
