16. The value of a machine depreciates at a constant rate from the cost price of 1,000 to the
scrap value of 100 in ten years. Find the annual rate of depreciation and the value of the
machine at the end of one, two, three years.
17. The price of a commodity increased by 12% in 1986, by 30% in 1987 and by 15% in 1988.
Calculate the average increase of price per year.

the rate of growth of population per annum. If the same growth continues, what will be
the population of the city in 1995.
19. The value of a machine depreciated by 30% in 1st year, 13% in 2nd year and by 5% in each
of the following three years. Determine the average rate of depreciation for the entire
period.
20. The geometric means of three groups consisting of 15, 20 and 23 observations are 14.5, 30.2
and 28.8 respectively. Find geometric mean of the combined group.
21. A sum of money was invested for 3 years. The rates of interest in the first, second and third
year were 10%, 12% and 14% respectively. Determine the average rate of interest per
annum.
22. The weighted geometric mean of four numbers 8, 25, 17 and 30 is 15.3. If the weights of first
