Introduction
Based on the experiences of Trade Disputes Act, 1929 and usefulness of rule 81 (a) of the Defence
of India Rules, the bill pertaining to Industrial Disputes Act, 1947 embodied the essential principles
of rule 81 (a) which was acceptable to both employers and workers retaining most parts of the
provisions of Trade Disputes Act, 1929. This legislation is designed to ensure industrial peace by
recourse to a given form of procedure and machinery for investigation and settlement of industrial
disputes.
