Netscape Navigator was developed by Netscape Communications and was officially released Notes
in December 1994. lt has online help available from the help menu and provides one of the
best web interfaces because of its features. It is also one of the fastest web browsers under
windows. This software is used for web designing because of its window based concept.
Microsoft Internet Explorer is one of the latest Internet browsers explored by Microsoft.
It has a lot of features including ability to browse web documents with ease; create
web documents (HTML) from scratch, convert a word documents to HTML and convert at
HTML document to word document. HTML is an abbreviation for Hyper Text Markup
Language.
Although there are differences between the two mentioned browsers, Internet Explorer and
Netscape Navigator their function in browsing the Web and the basic interface design is
similar.
The Banner
The interface for each of these programs consists of a banner (including buttons, menus,
one text area, and a logo) and below that banner is an open area that displays Web
pages.
The banners for both these browsers are shown in Figure 13.4 (a) and (b).

The banner is classified into the following three basic sections:
(i) The Menu Bar,
(ii) The Toolbar,
(iii) The Location or Address bar.
The Menu Bar
The menu bar is a list of terms that you can click. Clicking on these terms will display menus
from which you can select actions to perform.
