RDF Representation and Access to Master Data
aster data, as the core business entities a company uses, refers to lists or hierarchies
of customers, suppliers, accounts, products, or organizational units. In this scope,
MProduct and Customer Information play a very important role since their accurate
management is becoming critical for modern enterprises. They enable companies to centralize,
manage and synchronize all product and customer information with heterogeneous systems
and trading partners. The most critical challenge is the need to build a common master
model flexible enough to deal with business changes, and expressive enough to represent
the semantics of master data.
To enhance IBM master data management (MDM) solutions (Websphere Product Center and
Websphere Customer Center), we developed semantic technologies for Product Information
Management (PIM) and Customer Data Integration (CDI), respectively. Here, we would
like to highlight the value of semantic web technologies for MDM and brief completed and
ongoing work. As introduced in our previous work, the advantages of OWL ontologies for
product information include followings:
