Introduction
E-Commerce is associated with conducting any transaction involving the transfer of ownership to use
goods or services through a computer network or buying and selling over the Internet.
Internet based e-commerce has introduced revolutionary innovations in businesses, management, and
international trade. In particular, information sharing with clients and coordination of business
activities with trading partners based on shared information has managed to step up the existing level
of business acumen.
Mobile Commerce
M-Commerce (mobile commerce) is the buying and selling of goods and services
through wireless technology such as cellular telephones and Personal Digital Assistants
(PDAs).
3.1 Internet Environment for E-Commerce
The Internet is a collection of global networks, connected to share information using a common set of
protocols. It allows individuals from all over the world to be connected economically and reliably.
The Internet is a vast network, which helps people to share information around the world. It is an
enabler for e-commerce as the Internet allows businesses to showcase and sell their products and
services online. The Internet also gives potential customers, prospects, and business partners access to
information about the businesses and their products and services that would lead to purchase.
Before the Internet was utilized for commercial purposes, companies used private networks like the
Electronic Data Interchange (EDI) to transact business with each other. That was the early version of e-
