introduction
This unit covers TCP/IP networking, network administration and system configuration basics.
Linux can support multiple network devices. The device names are numbered and begin at zero
and count upwards. In Linux, each network device has it’s own name. Ethernet devices will
typically have names such as ‘eth0’ or ‘eth1’. Dial-up connections typically have names such as
‘ppp0’, and some wireless lan cards might have names like ‘wlan0’.
