Notes 2.10 Summary
The Peace Conference convened at the end of the World War I led to the creation of the
International Labour Organisation in 1919.
The ILO is a tripartite organisation, consisting of representatives of the governments,
employers and workers of member-countries in the ratio of 2:1:1.
The first national trade union organisation - the AITUC - in our country was formed
within one year of the setting up of the ILO.
Principal function of International Labour Organisation is to secure international minimum
social & labour standards.
Labour standards are embodied in the form of conventions & recommendations.
There is a basic difference in the nature of obligations created by Convention and
Recommendations.
The main purpose behind the development of social institutions is "to identify and advance
solutions to the problems connected with the framing and implementation of policies of
economic and social development

Social security: It is the social insurance program providing social protection, or protection

and others.
Wages: The remunerations received by the workers in lieu of its labour.
