orders. ERP can also include application modules for the finance and human resources aspects of
a business. Typically, an ERP system uses or is integrated with a relational database system.
With the advance of enterprise wide client/server computing comes a new challenge: how to
control all major business processes with single software architecture in real time. Such an
integrated software solution, known as enterprise resource planning (ERP) or just enterprise
systems, is a process of planning and managing all resources and their use in the entire enterprise.
10.1 Enterprise Resource Planning
Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) is an enterprise-wide information system designed to
coordinate all the resources, information, and activities needed to complete business processes
such as order fulfilment or billing.
