5.4 Summary
z Layers allow us to edit images without destroying them as we can undo the changes made.
z Photoshop provides the Layers palette to manage each layer present in a Photoshop
document.
z To blend these two photos together we can Drag and Drop or Copy and Paste images.
z The image dialog box is divided into two main sections – Pixel Dimensions and Document
Size.
z We can resize images via pixels or percent parameters.
z We can delete linked layers and hidden layers and also flatten them.
z Photoshop allows us to reapply the filters used, fade and blend them too using various
options in the Filter Gallery Dialog Box.

Artistic: This filter enables you to achieve artistic effects. You can get some of the most distinct
effects through this option.
Blur: This filter enables you to soften the look of an image. It can be used to soften the look of an
entire image part of an image. You can use it to reduce the hard edges of an image.
Brush Strokes: This filter enables you to create artistic effects using brush strokes.
Clipboard: The clipboard is a software facility that can be used for short-term data storage and/
or data transfer between documents or applications, via copy and paste operations.
Digimark: You have to use this option when you want to add a digital watermark to the image.
Fade Command: It changes the opacity and blending mode of any filter, painting tool, erasing
tool, or color adjustment.
Flattening: Merging all visible layers into the background layer to reduce file size.

Pixel: The smallest addressable element in a picture.
Pixelate: It creates small cells in the image that you are working with, based on color similarity.
Unsharp Mask: Used to create an image that is less blurry than the original one.
