Notes 9.2.1 Use of Heading Tags
Using a heading in a document is necessary for many reasons as stated below:
z Search engines use your headings to index the structure and content of your web pages.
z Since users may skim your pages by its headings, it is important to use headings to show
the document structure.
z Heading tags will be recognized by browsers which do not recognize style sheets
z Screen readers and magnifiers (for the visually impaired) rely on headings to navigate the
page.
z Heading tags make it easy to make global changes to headings.
Typically H1 headings should be used as main headings, followed by H2 headings, then the less
important H3 headings, and so on.
