Unit 2: Cloud Computing Features

out somewhat slow later added many of the niche functions found on Microsoft Word and Excel. Notes
You still must look at the features before you adopt cloud computing. Before giving up on your
traditional software, be sure that the cloud-based application you choose can do everything you
          need it to do.

2.2.7 Stored Data might not be Secure and Confidentiality Issues might
                  exist

Cloud computing means Internet computing. It means that all your data is stored on the cloud
that is on the Web. So avoid using cloud computing applications that involve using or storing
data that you are not comfortable having on the Internet. Be sure to have strong security
technologies and protocols established before using cloud computing.

          2.2.8 Possible Downtime

Cloud computing makes small business dependent on the reliability of your Internet connection.
When it’s offline, you’re offline. Even the most reliable service providers suffer server outages
          time and again.
2.2.9 You can get in trouble if cloud Loses your Data

We know that data stored in the cloud is unusually safe and it is duplicated across multiple
machines. That said, you must remember that there are chances that you may have no physical
or local backup in case your data might go missing. If you systematically download all your
cloud documents to your own desktop which not everybody does, you may secure your data.

               !
Caution Risk Tolerance: If you don’t have an appetite for minor disruptions, kinks, or
failures, then cloud may not be as good an option.

          2.3 Benefits of Cloud Computing

We now know cloud computing is not for everyone. What types of users are best suited for cloud
          computing—and which are not?

          2.3.1 Collaborators

A person who collaborates with others on group projects, is an ideal candidate for cloud
computing. One main benefit of Web-based applications which makes collaborating easy is the
ability to share and edit documents in real time between several users.
Imagine a situation in which you are in charge of an upcoming presentation to be presented to
the senior management of your company. You need to work with the heads of your company’s
various departments, which happen to be based in a lot of different locations. It is nearly
impossible to schedule a group conference call because of the busy schedules of your seniors.
How can all of you get together to create the presentation?

The solution here is to use a Web-based presentation program, such as Google Presentations.
This allows you and other department heads to access the main presentation document at any
time anywhere. The changes made by one person are automatically visible when the other
collaborators access the document. In fact, more than one of you can edit the document
