2.3.5 Cost-conscious Users Notes

Cost conscious users are yet another group of users who can benefit by using cloud computing.
With cloud computing, you easily save money on both your software and hardware.
When it comes to the software, you can use Google’s versions of these applications (Google
Docs, Spreadsheets, and Presentations) for free instead of spending huge amounts on the latest
version of Microsoft Office. These Web-based applications along with a few others from various
other companies are absolutely free to use.
From the Hardware point of view, you do not need to invest in superfast CPUs or large hard
disks. You can cut costs by buying a less fully featured PC without sacrificing on performance
since everything is stored and run from the web itself.
For these reasons many universities have switched to Google’s suite of online applications
instead of using Microsoft.
