Notes 6. Pattern evaluation: This step is used to identify the truly interesting patterns representing
knowledge based on some interestingness measures.
7. Knowledge presentation: In this step, visualization and knowledge representation
techniques are used to present the mined knowledge to the user.
Figure 11.1 shows data mining as a step in process of knowledge discovery.

11.1.2 Types of Data Mining Tasks
Two types of Data mining task are:
1. Prediction Methods: This type of method uses some variable to predict unknown or future
values of other variables.
2. Description Methods: This type of method finds human-interpretable patterns that describe
the data.
11.1.3 Purpose of Data Mining
Data mining enables people to discover information that they can act on to better understand,
selectively market to and retain their best customers, or sharply cut consumer fraud.
