Methodology of Research and Statistical Techniques

Notes 5. The ........................ closes with a statement that the investigator is willing to answer any
                                     questions or concerns.

                                5.3 Summary

                                • In structured observation, the researcher specifies in detail what is to be observed and
how the measurements are to be recorded. It is appropriate when the problem is clearly
defined and the information needed is specified.
                                • In personal observation, a researcher observes actual behaviour as it occurs. The observer
may or may not normally attempt to control or manipulate the phenomenon being observed.
                                • Data refers to information or facts usually collected as the result of experience, observation
or experiment or premises. Data may consist of numbers, words, or images, particularly
as measurements or observations of a set of variables.
                                • In primary data collection, you collect the data yourself using methods such as interviews
                                     and questionnaires.

Data Collection : It is an important aspect of any type of research study.
Questionnaires : These are a popular means of collecting data, but are different to
                                                        design.
