Morden cities have darkened our lives, and in many countries young people are farm-

learn the less we are able to laugh.

Shivaji, the great Maratha warrior and one of the heroes of the world, was born in
1627. His father was Shivaji, a Jagirdar and Shivaji was his second son. Jija Bai, a
lady of remarkable character, was Shivaji’s mother and the fact that mothers are the
makers of men was amply illustrated by her in Sivaji’s case. It was from his mother
that Shivaji derived his profound religious instincts and his exceptional strength of
                                 character.

Life in this world is a constant struggle. Every man tries to outstrip his fellow-men in
the race of life. He who is active and has the capacity to act with promptness, comes
out successful. He who wavers, is left for behind and wakes to find himself hopelessly
beaten, like the hare, in the story of the ‘‘The hare and The Tortoise’’. A hesitating
man is never successful in life.

If there is one thing which more than all others is likely to increase happiness in the
world, it is the movement which is making Boy Scouts and Girl Guides all over the
world. For it is making also for brotherliness and love and mutual help. It is discover-
ing happiness again, as it has been said that there is not a man in the world but
something improves in his soul the moment he loves. Goodness and forgiveness and
help are the truest causes of happiness, and men may yet come to realize that it is not
more knowledge but more real happiness that the world needs today.
