EXERCISE 11
Poverty is due to several cause, the chief among them being idleness, extravagance
and misfortune. The love of ease leads one to acquire the habit of idleness and idleness
makes one shrink from work and any kind of labour. One cannot expect to earn any
think without working and so an idle man for his own faults, has to struggle with
poverty and is ever in want. Extravagance is yet another cause of poverty. A man who
spends his money recklessly soon exhausts his resources and is faced with want.

EXERCISE 12
If we notice a river we will find that there is a current in it and that the water is
constantly changing. If this were not so, the water would be bad and unfit to be used.
We also see that there is something besides this. There is sunshine but this sunshine
is never constant. It is followed by clouds. Clouds, again are followed by rain and after
the rain there is sunshine again.
EXERCISE 13
To expect permanent succes without self-help is simply building castles in the air.
Many people attribute their failure to others. They think that fear, envy, anger, self-
ishness and the like on the part of others are the cause of their failure. A man of self-
help thinks and acts in different way. He never blames others for his failure and analy-
ses his own actions till he finds out the real cause.
