                                            EXERCISE 21 uksV
Boys and girls who are living today have far more to learn than children who lived
hundreds of years ago. At the present time, by steamships, aeroplanes and express
trains, a man can travel round the world in few days. In the old days, when there were
no trains or aeroplanes or motorcars,a traveller throught it was a long journeys to go
eighty or ninety kilometre. Do you know how men made journey and carried things
from land to another in the days before such wonderful things as aeroplanes and steam-
ships were known? Thousands of years ago man had to walk and carry things them-
selves, just as they must do now when they are in a part of the country where there are
            no roads.

The population problem is another major present day world problem which is regional
Indian problem as well. Population is increasing at an inordinate rate now as a result
of our having succeeded in reducing the world’s death rate without having achieved
up-to-date, a proportionate education in birth rate. The Government has faced this
problem frankly and has been taking steps to cope with it is a titanic educational
enterprise to try to convince millions of wives and husbands that they can and should
limit the number of their children.

I would like to say one word about the education of the heart. I do not believe that this
can be given through books. It can only be done through the living touch of the teacher.
And who are the teachers is school? Have they themselves received the training of the
heart? Do the teachers get even the living wage? And we know that teachers are not
selected for their patriotism. They alone come who cannot find any other employment.

The sun is a great source of energy it only we could find a good way of using it. Its
energy is stored in food by plants and animals which feed on plants. In this way is the
source of life. No one has yet invented a suitable way of using its rays to drive large
machines directly. But this is not impossible.
