Notes There are three options inside Rene Edge that are explained below-
z Smooth: To smoothen out jagged edges of a selection. It is very useful in selection made
using the Magic Wand as it leads to weird bumps along the edge of a selection.
z Feather: Using a specific pixel number it can be used to feather out a selection. This proves
very helpful when creating a vignette. It also allows you to visualize the amount of
feathering which is better than guessing the pixel radius.
z Contract/Expand: Can be used to move your selection inward (contract) or outward
(expand).

4.3 The Painting Tools
Photoshop provides several tools for painting images. We can draw and color using the Brush
tool and the Pencil tool. Tools like the Eraser tool, Blur tool, and Smudge tool can be used to
modify the existing colors in the image. You can set how color is applied to an image and choose
from preset brush tips from the options bar in each of these painting tools.
4.3.1 Paint and Edit Tool Options
Presets available for the tool are present in the Options bar. Some of them include:
Mode: To blend the color you paint with the underlying existing pixels. Available modes change
with the currently selected tool. Paint modes are similar to layer blending modes.
Opacity: To Set the transparency of color you apply. As you paint over an area, the opacity does
not exceed the set level no matter how many times you move the pointer over the area, until you
release the mouse button. If you stroke over the area again, you apply additional color, equivalent
to the set opacity. Opacity of 100 percent is opaque.
Flow: Sets the rate at which color is applied as you move the pointer over an area. As you paint
over an area, keeping the mouse button down, the amount of color builds up based on the flow
rate, up to the opacity setting.
Example: If you set the opacity to 33% and the flow to 33%, each time you move over an
area, its color moves 33% toward the brush color. The total will not exceed 33% opacity unless
you release the mouse button and stroke over the area again.
