The following figure 13.1 depicts a typical texture image of a physical texture.

Rough surfaces can appear visually active while smooth surfaces can be
visually restful due to their smooth texture.

It is important to know that light is an important factor as it can affect the way in which surfaces are
viewed. When a strong light is directed on a smooth surface, the readability of a drawing or a text is
affected. However, the same light can create strong contrasts on a high textured surface.
               2. Visual Texture: Visual texture is the perception of having a physical texture. Every material has its
own visual texture which needs to be considered before creating a composition. Textures are
created by repetitive use of shapes and lines.
