                                   Self Assessment

State whether the following statements are true or false:
                                   11. Standard operating procedures (SOPs) means establishing procedure to be followed in
carrying out a given operation or in a given situation.
                                   12. An important aspect of a quality system is to work according to unambiguous Standard
                                       Operating Procedures (SOPs).

                                   13. A SOP is a non compulsory instruction.
                                   14. If deviations from this instruction are allowed, the conditions for these should be
documented including who can give permission for this and what exactly the complete
                                       procedure will be.
                                   15. The original should rest at a secure place while working copies should be authenticated
with stamps and/or signatures of authorised persons.
                                   16. The name “SOP” is always appropriate.
                                   17. Worksheets belonging to an analytical procedure have to be standardised (to avoid jotting
down readings and calculations on odd pieces of paper).
                                   18. Standard operating procedures (SOP) are a detailed explanation of how a policy is to be
                                       implemented.
                                   19. The SOP may appear on the same form as a policy or it may appear in a separate document.
                                   20. An effective SOP communicates who will perform the task, what materials are necessary,
where the task will take place, when the task shall be performed, and how the person will
                                       execute the task.

                                     Overview
